We didn’t want it to be treated as a precious art object or to use it to beautify the area – we suppose that, amongst other things, it was an attempt to reflect on the artist’s role in the regeneration processes and how goodwill gestures for the usually run down areas, by improving their image, pave the way in for developers and out for local communities.

Aleksandra Jach / Katarzyna Słoboda:  How was the sculpture supposed to change something on Stare Polesie or what was it supposed to give to the locals?

Alicja Rogalska / Martin Clarke:  The sculpture wasn’t supposed to change anything. Not in a direct sense anyway. It was about exposing things, proposing a different point of view, suggesting a certain focus – and that’s what we believed we could offer as visiting artists. We don’t see it as a  generous gift to the locals either, to be cherished and protected, but rather as a proposal, a prompt for discussion – relating to the.
